UCSF Eating Disorder Program Medical Registry

Jason Nagata, MD, MSc and Andrea Garber, PhD

We are studying medical management and medical complications of eating disorders in adolescents and young adults. We have focused on understudied populations including males and LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults hospitalized with eating disorders.

We have identified unique medical complications of male adolescents and young adults with eating disorders. Males hospitalized for eating disorders have longer hospital stays, lower heart rates, are more likely to be anemic, and are more likely to have severe Vitamin D deficiency than females.
