Understanding Health Care Service Utilization in Medicaid-Insured Youth with Eating Disorders
This project involves examining health care services provided to youth up to age 18 with Medicaid in California (Medi-Cal). California’s mental health coverage is decentralized and assigned to each individual county to manage, such that these data represent care provided across 58 distinct service environments that vary widely in size, wealth, political orientation, urban–rural status, and provider capacity, resembling state-to-state diversity in service environments. The data highlight gross underdiagnosis of EDs among youth with Medicaid insurance, who represent a diverse population. Ongoing analyses are focused on understanding factors associated with service utilization, hospitalization, and risk for re-hospitalization.
